Newport Beach, CA (June 19, 2014) – Pelican Point Capital Partners, LLC, announces the appointment of Labid Aziz as an Executive Director covering physical commodities business and entertainment transactions for the firm. “Labid has a great work ethic, background and network that will compliment Pelican’s efforts,” said Ike Suri, Co-CEO and Co-Founder.

Most recently, Mr. Aziz was a Senior Vice President of Spartacus Partners Corporation, a private merchant bank in New York City, where he helped launch the group’s first commodities trading desk. He was also the Director of Operations for Alamout Ltd., a major European physical import/export company focused on agriculture, metals, mineral and energy. In addition, Mr. Aziz consulted for a US-based energy trading company and an international mining company with iron ore operations in Mexico and Chile. While working at these organizations his focus was deal structuring, financial/legal oversight, compliance and leading due diligence efforts. Mr. Aziz is also currently an advisor for CT Energia, a global energy trading company, assisting the company in its growth and expansion into the Asian Market.

Prior to his work in commodities, Mr. Aziz’s career focused on media, communications and technology. In this capacity, he designed the mainframe for one of the first private corporate social networking sites and spearheaded the launch of a $150 million hedge fund investing in film entertainment. Mr. Aziz began his career as a media/communications strategist working mainly with non-profits, socially responsible corporations and educational institutions such as The Civil Rights Project at Harvard University, ACLU, Islamic Relief USA, and the Boys & Girls Clubs of Boston. His work was designed to impact operations and affect policy at a local, state and federal level. He also produced three feature films, eight short films, nine music videos, more than ten commercials and PSAs and was a segment director on a PBS documentary on Helena Rubinstein and Elizabeth Arden titled The Powder and Glory. He still maintains close ties to organizations focused on addressing health care and education reform and civil rights issues domestically and abroad.

Mr. Aziz graduated from Brandeis University with a B.S. in Psychology. He also completed a Post-Baccalaureate program in Entrepreneurship at the Brandeis International Business School.
